Taking It Easy   Leave a comment

Some photos require great effort to capture.  This isn’t one of them.

I’ve hiked miles to get the image I wanted.  Fourteen miles on one Olympic National Park hike (with a mile’s worth of up and down elevation change), or the twelve-mile trudge through sand and rocks in Paria Canyon.  Then there was the 3,200 ft. climb to Glacier Point in Yosemite, with my son asking “Dad, are you okay?”.

Those are great memories for me, and probably boring stories for everyone else.  So here’s an easy one.  This photo was taken early in the morning from the patio of the Grand Canyon Lodge (north rim).  Besides getting up before the sun — a fair amount of effort in and of itself — my greatest exertion was stopping to pick up a Starbucks coffee on the way to the patio.  Beyond that, all I had to do was plop down on one of the adirondack chairs, set up my tripod, and shoot away while sitting and sipping.

Every sunrise should be that spectacular and every photo should be that easy.
